“Courage is looking fear right in the eye and saying, Get the hell out of my way, I’ve got things to do.

~ Unknown

It’s been a heck of a week .

Calgary and many surrounding communities in Alberta were hit with one of the worst floods the area has ever seen. Tens of thousands of people were evacuated from their homes, many lost everything. Entire communities, our downtown core, our zoo and beloved Stampede Grounds were flooded and we now begin the slow and heart-breaking job of clean up. But we’re strong.

The impact of the floods has been devastating to say the least. Few would have judged if we buckled under the immensity of it all but instead we squared our shoulders and said How can I help?

The community has come together like never before, helping in whatever way they can; donating time, food, shelter, pet care, money, resources, and pure back-breaking physical labour. We’re rolling up our sleeves, donning our rubber boots and doing whatever it takes to get back on our feet. And we will.

We have become an example of grace under pressure that makes me proud to be a Calgarian…an Albertan. We looked fear straight in the eye and said Get the hell out of my way, we’ve got things to do.

Do you want to help?

If you live in the area, here’s a one link that will show you ways that you can get involved in the clean up.

If you wish to donate to the relief effort here is a great resource that lets you choose where your money is allotted.
