“Success will never be a big step in the future, success is a small step taken just now.”
~ Jonatan Martensson
I love the fresh-start-feeling that comes with the change from summer to fall. It’s a great time to reconnect to goals, and establish a plan for personal and professional betterment. What could that look like for you?
As you ponder possibilities, remember it’s not necessarily about going big. If you’ve got the time, energy and resources to do that, GREAT, but if you’re like me, the busyness of life means I get further on my goals when I commit to daily small-steps efforts over infrequent big leaps. In other words, consistency is better than intensity.
Watch the short video below, or read the transcript that follows, for more on this Everyday Excellence mindset shift.
Hey, Michelle Cederberg here out for a morning walk with my crazy puppy Islay digging around in the grass. And as always, when I’m out for these morning walks, my mind gets to noodling on stuff… ideas.
And this morning, I’m thinking about everyday excellence. It is autumn. It is a fresh start (It’s very fresh this morning), back to school, whatever you want to call it. But it always feels like a fresh start, a good chance to jump in with whatever it is that you’re working on, and give it some refocused energy.
So as you do that, try not to get overwhelmed by how big your goal might be, but rather just focus on the little things that you can do every single day to move your goals forward. I call it Everyday Excellence, because I think more of us need to give ourselves a bit of a break every now and then, from going big. Instead, we need to give ourselves permission to be consistent with all the goals we’re working toward.
For me, I’m committed to maintaining the fitness I gained over the summer as a result of training for my Badger ride in Scotland. That means I’m trying to ride at an intense level several days a week. I’m getting back into my weights. I’m doing the things that I know are going to keep me fit and healthy.
I’m also trying to write again. So I’m writing for 10 minutes every single morning until I can land on the idea that I want to grow. Then I’ll write for longer stretches.
I’m meditating 5 to 10 minutes. They’re all small things, but they will create a big impact.
What are the small actions that you can take this week? What are the everyday excellence moments that you can tap into to move your goals forward?
That’s my thought today on this beautiful autumn morning. Until next time, I’m Michelle Cederberg, reminding you that in order to Ignite High Performance, we don’t always need to go big. Sometimes we need to just tap into the everyday excellence we know that we possess and trust that the goal will be conquered. You got this.
