“Creativity needs breaks. Stress is the enemy of creativity.”

~ Kunal

When projects need to get done, we often think the only thing to do is put our heads down and do the freakin’ work. But, sometimes it’s equally important to pause and give yourself breathing space so ideas and strategies have time to become fully formed.

This time of year is ideal for creative, guilt-free downtime, and you can get it as you enjoy the last of these lazy, hazy days of summer…walking, biking, picnicking… pick your pleasure!

You’ll hit autumn with renewed focus and energy around what’s truly important for you.

Watch the video below, or read the transcript that follows, then enjoy some creative downtime before summer’s end.

I do this every summer ladies and gentlemen. I get to the end of my busy speaking time at the end of June, and I say to myself “July and August are going to be all about getting sh*t done!”

Hey, Michelle Cederberg here, pondering overcommitment, and the benefit there is to just thinking about things. As summer came along I realized I was in no mindset shall we say, to dig in and create my online program and do all the things I thought that I would get done…when I had more time.

I’ve done it in the past when I was writing my books, “summer time is going to be productive!” But, it never is for me, because by the time I get to summer, I have come out of a very busy speaking season. And this year of course the pandemic made it even more exhausting (and exhilarating), so I get to summer time and it really is a time to just regain focus and recharge my life.

How about you?

Because when I think about it, stress and creativity cannot coexist. So, for me summertime is really about thinking about the business, and what I want for myself in the fall ahead, and the year that’s coming…how I want to do things, what I want to do, and how I can do things differently. It’s not always about “Produce, produce, produce!” It’s not always about working really hard in the office.

Sometimes I get my best ideas outside of it, when I’m digging in the garden, or walking the dog, or doing some sort of outdoor activity. So, as we’re heading into this last month of summer (OMG, can you believe it), what do you need for yourself to make sure you’re hitting fall, back-to-school, back-to-work, and the post-pandemic life that is coming our way, so that you can be positive, productive , and doing your very best work?

For me, I’m giving myself a big ‘ol break. The online program is coming, and when it does it’s going to be even bigger and better than I could have ever imagined. Stayed tuned for that, and stay tuned for some interesting other things that I’ve got brewing as I give myself a chance to think, and be creative, and be open-minded to what’s possible as the world opens up. Post-pandemic living means we’ll be able to do things differently and better.

Until next time I’m Michelle Cederberg reminding you we’ve got one chance to do this life, I say Dare to Live It Big, and dare to give yourself some real creative, thinking, non-working downtime for the rest of this summer. That’s definitely going to be on my agenda.

Until next time.
