For years I was a full-time personal trainer, motivating people to get the most out of their fitness time. Many of my clients would tell me that most of the time they showed up for sessions just because they paid for them. Hey, whatever it takes!

These days the economy may have many of us thinking “I can’t afford to pay for personal training.” But if you’re an unmotivated exerciser (and even if you’re not) I say you can’t afford not to.

I’ve hung up my personal training clip board to expand my coaching business, but my colleague – and perhaps one of the most qualified fitness professionals I know – Lana Asuchak is busy motivating Calgarians to new levels of health and fitness and she recently shared some interesting personal training facts with me.

IDEA, the International Health and Fitness organization released a statistic that found 75% of people who exercise are not getting the results they want. But out of the 25% of people who are getting results, 90% of them are working with a Personal Trainer. That doesn’t surprise me, but if you need more evidence for investing in personal training read on.

Make an investment that will last a lifetime.

Four  Reasons to hire a Personal Trainer

1. Not getting results?

One size does not fit all. It’s common to feel like the amount of effort you’re putting in is not matching the reward. Your personal trainer will change your program and show you how to:

  • Get results more effectively and in less time
  • Provide you with a brand new exercise regime that will take you to a higher level of fitness and health
  • Make the difference between a great workout and “ho-hum one” – or even no workout at all!

2. Having difficulty sticking to your program?

You’re not alone. Eighty percent of people discontinue their exercise program after 2-3 months. But things could be different. Your personal trainer will help you adhere to your program consistently. When you schedule an appointment with a trainer, you make a commitment to yourself – a commitment that your trainer won’t let you break!

3. Are you an athlete or a weekend warrior?

Many people dream of the challenge of completing an athletic event. With your own personal coach, that dream becomes a reality. Whether you are training for a 5 or 10 km fun run, a half or full marathon, a triathlon, skiing, a grueling hike or just training to improve your quality of life, your trainer will provide you with a plan for success.

4. Suffering from an injury?

An injury can really set you back. You have the choice of doing nothing or taking an active role in feeling better. Your trainer will work with you and your health care professional to develop a safe rehabilitation program. Your trainer will assist you on your road to recovery.

Most good personal trainers recognize that with all clients, it is not a matter of capacity or ability, it’s a matter of getting you so emotionally excited about your fitness goals that no matter what other responsibilities or obstacles surface, you maintain your program. Sounds like fun huh? Invest in your health and take control of your life.
