“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”

~ Stephen R. Covey

And sometimes you have to make yourself the priority. I think we get overwhelmed when we don’t pause long enough to assess what we’re saying YES and NO to. Yay or nay?

If we want to stave off burnout and build resilience, that assessment needs to be a daily practice.

Watch the short video below to hear more, or read the transcript that follows, and let me know if you agree.

AND, this week I’m excited to share a great new product that is SO FUN. It’s my new Success-Energy Equation mouse pad. If you’ve seen my presentation, you know! You can purchase the mousepad here and get a laugh every day, as you work away.

Onward!

Hey, Michelle Cederberg here, continuing the conversation around resilience, sitting in my car in a parking lot in Canmore, Alberta.

I’ve done two keynotes today and I’m just about to drive back to Calgary, and realized this is the day that I normally do my video. I have a board meeting tonight and so I’m not necessarily going to have the time later. So… one of the things I want to talk about when it comes to building resilience, are the Yes’s and No’s of it. Sometimes we get ourselves in resilience-binds because we want perfection.

So, today I’m saying no to a more ideal studio setting, or a better backdrop, and saying yes to getting the video done, and having conversation with you from my car. On the weekend, I was going to go to a meeting, but then realized my attendance wasn’t necessary…and that it would be better for me to say yes to spending time in my garden, and with my dog, and restoring my energy that way. Sometimes we just need to pay attention to the things that are coming at us and ask ourselves, “Is this going to fill my energy or drain it?”

If it’s on your job description, you probably want to say yes,. Even then, more often than not, we have some wiggle room where we can assess, “Is this the best use of my time and energy today?”

Because as I said in last week’s video, resilience is about adapting to whatever’s coming at you, but it’s also about recovering in the face of excess stress.

So the yes’s and no’s of resilience will give you that opportunity to recover when you need it. What does that look like for you? Who are the people or projects that you might need to say no to so that you can say yes to yourself? Share in the comments. Let me know what you think.

Also, I’m also excited to share a great new product that I can’t wait for you all to see. It’s my new Success-Energy Equation mouse pad. Remember the equation? Some of you have seen it. You can purchase the mousepad here. SO FUN!
